Day 1 and Day 2

Measurements (今の私)
height: 5'4"(162.6 cm)
bust: 34" (90 cm)
waist: 27" (70 cm)
hips: 38.6" (98 cm)
weight: #@^*&!
real weight:....perhaps later.

Goal:
weight: 52kg (about 115lb)
bust: 34" (91 cm)
waist: 25" (63.5 cm)
hips: 36" (92 cm)...we'll see. Apparently, I'm not allowed to get that small. Au contraré, I've been told that by the end of this, I should in fact gain width. Do you know how obnoxious I would look with a butt so huge? I'll get major complaints. I'll majorly complain. I'm going to have to come back to this one.

I would have updated yesterday, but I was the last person on Earth to watch Avatar in 3-D and by the time I got home, I was way too tired to write.   Brent came over after dance practice (oh, you didn't know? My boyfriend is a dancer **gloating**). He ate the fried rice that my mom made and helped me stretch after my workout.

Brent and Harada, my cat, eating dinner.

Anyway, that is neither here nor there.

Be proud of me; yesterday I ran five mile in an hour and never stopped at all...or so I would say if I had been running everyday since that fated day in December (when Ken-san motivated me to start doing this thing). But I wasn't in as bad a shape as I had imagined and I didn't die after working out like I thought I would. The Spartan (Jermaine in the picture) decided that we were going to have a "test of endurance" yesterday so we ran from the Convention Center end of the Ala Wai to Ward and back.

By the way, in case you were wondering, this is Jermaine. He also goes by Spartcus and thinks that the movie 300 was made for him. He's a very scary coach.  When I mentioned that we're going to have to pause our workout for a week because I was thinking of do the Brazilian Keratin treatment on my hair, he glared me down until I meekly mumbled something about doing it later...eep!

The girl in the picture is Seychelle, not me.  A lot of people get us confused because our names sound the same and we're usually doing projects together at work. People also think we're related.

Anyway, back on topic: my Test of Endurance.  I got all the way to Ward without stopping and I even sprinted across Ala Moana Park but once I got to the other side, my bladder got in the way and I couldn't run because I had to pee so badly. I ended up using the creepy bathroom where I forced myself to squat without touching the seat and my legs ended up cramping. After that, running was not on my to-do list and I walked all the way back. There was a heated debated about how much we ran yesterday. Spartan says it was only a little over a mile. Seychelle and I would like to think that we had at least ran for 2.5 miles. At least. I think I'm going to look it up and figure out the distance to settle this once and for all.
Later on, I recruited Brent to stretch me since I felt like I'd suffer dearly if I didn't . I suffered dearly anyway because he was tough on me. It didn't helped that I hadn't really stretched in a while. He had to remind me to relax and breathe the whole time. Salena, my sister, decided to help.

I know that I was whining, "never again!" while he was doing it, but I think I'll ask him to make it a habit to help me stretch. It definitely helped. When I woke up this morning, I wasn't sore.  This made me realize that stretching IS the most important thing to do after running.    Now that I think about it, my marathon-guru, Ken-san, had mentioned that the 3 most important things to running a successful marathon are:
1) good shoes (hence my Hawaii exclusive Nike running shoes),
2) good socks (he literally told me that it makes all the difference in the world)
and 3) a good post-run stretch...

Oh, and 4) and icing my legs.

He said that in order to stimulate and optimize your blood flow and oxygen intake, you should ice your calves for an hour at 20 minute intervals (I'm not kidding, he said all that). He also said that the temperature change affects your system in a good way and allows you to run even better as time goes on...I don't really get it either but if he says so, then why not? Technically, I'm supposed to ice my legs soon after stretching while my temperature's up, but I haven't taken any ice packs to work to do that. Perhaps I will bring some and keep them in the freezer till after work. With that said, I will ice my legs starting tomorrow.

Today, our run wasn't as long. We basically went the long way around the Hawaii Convention Center and then power-walked another lap around the park behind HCC.  I didn't stop running at all (until the power-walk lap) but I know that I've got to get in to better shape than this. We've got the Great Aloha Run coming up in February and I've got about a month to master running 9 miles without stopping. The Great Aloha Run starts at the Aloha Tower and ends at the Aloha Stadium...I've gotta hustle.

The sunset makes the Ala Wai look pretty.
